The Salton Sea is a shallow, saline, endorheic rift lake located directly on the San Andreas Fault, predominantly in the U.S. state of California's Imperial and Coachella valleys. The lake occupies the lowest elevations of the Salton Sink in the Colorado Desert of Imperial and Riverside counties in Southern California.Its surface is 236.0 ft (71.9 m) below sea level as of January 2018.During the 1950’s and 60’s the Salton Sea was considered the California Riviera as its shores were filled with recreation goers and celebrities. However, the Salton Sea is no longer the desert paradise it once was. In fact in many ways it is becoming a liability.
Italian photographer Nicholas Albrecht only expected to visit the Salton Sea for a few days, instead he stayed 10-months. His photographs document his personal experience of this isolated region.
